Cortile

Cortile

Cortile is defined as an open courtyard, enclosed by the walls of a building (Italian).

The design fittingly inherits its name from the central green courtyard, situated at the heart of the dwelling. The presence of the courtyard in Cortile plays a fundamentally important role in establishing privacy, as well as creating a greater sense of openness to the relatively constrained site.

Cladded in warm, natural materials, the architecture of the dwelling is calming in nature, further expressed through curved geometry and smooth surfaces. Functional planning of the home is driven by the central courtyard. The curved surfaces within Cortile provide an important sense of relief to the otherwise rigid geometry of the dwelling. Softening of the architecture is further achieved through the use of warm, natural finishes.
